Prepare an image for a bead pattern
Choose a readable subject, plan the grid and review the colour choices before committing to a physical pattern.
A bead pattern starts with a readable image. At a small grid size, fine detail and very similar colours can disappear. Begin with a clear subject, then decide how much detail the physical pattern needs.
Start with a simple crop
Crop away distracting background and leave enough space around the subject. Choose an image you own or have permission to use. A pattern tool does not remove the rights associated with the source image.
Plan the physical scale
Think about the board size and the beads you will actually use. Review the grid at the intended scale rather than judging only a large on-screen preview. Check edges and the features that make the subject recognizable.
Review the palette
Similar-looking screen colours may need to be simplified for the colours in your bead collection. Inspect the proposed pattern before making the physical piece. Share a non-confidential sample and the grid size in the tools community if you need help with the conversion.
